Photography & Video

Photography inside the house requires a special permit, available for purchase at the ticket booth. Even with a permit, flash is strictly forbidden. Photography in the gardens is free. Video recording and selfie sticks are not allowed anywhere on the premises.

Bag Policy

Only small bags and purses (no larger than 35 cm / 14 inches) are allowed inside. The museum's coat check service is often unavailable, so you may be denied entry if your bag is too large. Travel light.

Prohibited Items

Food, drinks, umbrellas, strollers, and large items are not permitted inside. Please do not touch any of the artworks or furnishings on display.

General Conduct

Please keep your voice low and silence your mobile phone to respect the experience of other visitors. Supervise children at all times. Running is not permitted.

How much is the photography permit?
The price for the permit is set by the museum and can be purchased upon arrival. It is a nominal fee, but it is required for any non-flash photography inside the house.
What if my bag is too big?
The museum is very strict about its bag policy. As the cloakroom is often closed, you risk being denied entry if your bag exceeds the 35cm (14 inch) limit. It is essential to bring only a very small bag or no bag at all.
Can I bring a water bottle?
No, liquids are not permitted inside the museum galleries. You can purchase drinks at the on-site café to enjoy in the garden area.
Is there a dress code?
There is no formal dress code. Dress comfortably for walking and standing. It is respectful to remove hats inside the house.
Are strollers allowed?
No, strollers are not allowed inside the historic house due to narrow spaces. They must be checked at the entrance. A baby carrier is a much better option for families with infants.
Can I sketch inside the museum?
Sketching with pencils in a small notebook is generally permitted, but using paints, inks, or large easels is not. Please be mindful not to block pathways for other visitors.
